All reviews:
Excellent Android Head Unit, great support! Honda CR-V Executive, 1.6d, built 2017, is a great car, unfortunately with a glitch in the built-in infotainment system, frequently going dead. Honda started to support Android Auto with the later model (in Europe, it is 2018 onwards). Therefore, we ordered Taffio Android Head Unit from RealmediaShop. The delivery was quick and the hardware was safe in the package. The technicians from RealMediaShop helped us along the way: depending on the Honda equipment, there were a few tweaks to properly wire and configure the head unit. An additional interface for the connection of the original rearview camera had to be ordered separately. The quality of the product is very high: stereo (with amplifier) is working great, actually the default setting was a bit too loud and we had to tune some values for sound in CANbus. The navigation system is using new maps from HERE: it is available offline. The booting time for stereo and for navigation is almost zero. The screen is awesome: it is significantly larger than the original, fits perfectly, there is no reflection under sunny conditions, it is responsive to touch-typing, swipes and any other input. The steering wheel commands work properly: volume up/down, change of radio stations or songs (depending on source selected). The Bluetooth connection enables crystal-clear hands-free phone calls. There are couple more options you might like (watching videos stored on device), but we do not practice it in the car. Finally, with USB-cable connectors in place (not yet connected to central console ports), I connected my Samsung S10 running Android 12 and - the Android Auto started immediately! All important applications were there: Google Maps, Waze, Spotify, WhatsUp. It is still necessary to have an active Bluetooth link in order to have hands-free calls, but there are advantages: you see your contact names, recent calls, just like on the phone screen. With one tap, you can listen to any message, without diverting your attention from traffic. It is easy to use Google Maps (with actual Traffic), while listening studio-quality Spotify songs without any problems (delays, disconnects, interruptions). In case that you go back from the Android Auto screen to the default screen (showing Time/Date, Source, Navigation and Radio), you can always bring it back by tapping the shortcut Z-Link, after swiping from right to left. Conclusion: the Android Head Unit from Taffio (PX5), sold by RealmediaShop, is a great improvement over the original Honda head unit (made by Fujitsu). It offers bigger screen, user-friendly interface, a great stereo, free maps with voice-guided offline navigation. The interface for rear-view camera should be bought separately. The Android Auto works out-of-the-box. It is a good idea to have professional help when installing it - people from RealmediaShop are very helpful.
